Ha felsőfokúzni készülsz akkor bizony elvárás hogy tisztában legyél a rendszer álltal megkövetelt kötőszavakkal, ennek az angolban több féle megnevezése van: Linker Word, Linking Word, Connectors, Conjunctions, Transitions. Jó ha tudod hogy érdemes ezeket a varázs szavakat használni mert átláthatóbbá teszi a fogalmazásodat és vezérli az olvasót a mellékmondataid közti logikai kapcsolat megértésében. Ha nem használsz tudatosan ilyen szavakat akkor nem alkotsz összefüggő szöveget. A fogalmazásod javítói egy külön javítási szempontot szántak ennek (Kohézió). Szerinten Euroexamen a writing-nál potya pontokat lehet szerezni ha használsz ilyen szavakat. Sokkal könnyebb megszerezni ezeket a pontokat mint például a szókincsre. Ezért alább sok linkert megemlítek angolul.


Giving reasons and causes:

  • As it was getting late, I decided I should go home. (NOT Past Continuous / Progressive)
  • Since he was going to be away on his birthday, we celebrated before he left.
  • We could go and visit Natalia, seeing that we have to drive past her house anyway.
  • The film is unusual in that it features only four actors.
  • Clara and I have quite an easy life, inasmuch as neither of us has to work too hard but we earn quite a lot of money.
  • We were delayed because of an accident.
  • She was unable to run owing to / due to a leg injury.
VAGY:
  • She was unable to run owing to the fact that / due to the fact that she had a leg injury.
  • I wasn't at school hence I didn't attend the class. (PAST)
  • I'm just about to play football thus I can't talk with you. (FUTURE)

Talking about purposes and results:

  • He took the course in order to get a better job.
  • Trees are being planted by the roadside so as to reduce traffic noise.
  • He took the course to get a better job.
  • She stayed at work late so as to complete the report.
    OR: She stayed at work late so that she could complete the report.

Contrasting ideas:

  • Although / Though Reid failed to score himself, he helped Jones to score two goals.
  • Despite the fact that / In spite of the fact that Reid failed to score himself, he helped Jones to score two goals.
VAGY:
  • Despite / In spite of Reid's failing to score himself, he helped Jones to score two goals.
  • Even though Matt doesn’t speak Spanish, I think he should still visit Madrid.
This means: The speaker knows that Matt doesn’t speak Spanish.
  • Even if Matt doesn’t speak Spanish, I think he should still visit Madrid.
This means: The speaker doesn’t know definitely whether Matt speaks Spanish or not.
  • While / Whilst there is no evidence that Rob cheated, we were all astonished that he passed the exam.
BUT: Note that whilst is a rather literary word and some people avoid using it.
  • Juan gets lots of homework from school, while / whereas Mia gets very little.

Motion: THS that salaries of teachers should be increased in institutionalized education. Thank you, Mr. Speaker! Dear honourable members of the House! Outline: In today’s debate, we are all looking for the answer to whether or not more subsidies should be distributed to teachers in institutionalized education.   In my speech, I will go into further detail on how the latter could be attained.   My speech will consist of 5 parts: First of all, I will give the exact definition of what the government mean by the word education. Verb + ing Forms and Infinitives C1

Introduction: There are lots of unanswered questions concerning verb complementation including infinitives and gerund. Therefore, I have decided to answer these questions and dispel all of these doubts by writing a blog about this topic.  Let me start off by saying, that this blog won't include those basic grammar structures which are needed for the B2 exam.  Thus, I will only be writing about the learning material that is required for the so-called advanced level. Honestly, I have fallen in love with these grammatical structures, for this reason, I will be using them on the C1 exam, to impress the examiners. I want to get good points. Grammar: Some verbs can be either followed by an [object + ing] or a [possessive + ing] with a similar meaning.  Example: I resented Tom winning the prize. OR I resented Tom's winning the prize.
