Can't Stay Away from Social Media?
Introduction:
There is an increasing number of people declaring that
social networking sites fulfil an important role in human life. I deeply agree
with it since Facebook and Instagram have become primary methods for
communication and socialization.
Good aspects:
Keeping up with
our fast-changing world:
Youngsters tend to visit their social accounts
numerous times a day so as to maintain and develop their social relationships
with the people whom they are surrounded by. Social networking sites (SNSs) offer
the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world. There is no
telling what the future will entail and therefore people have to keep
up-to-date and stay abreast of the times. SNSs makes it possible to get
informed about the latest news of our fast-changing world of globalization.
The impact of SNSs
Social sites, such as LinkedIn, highly contributes and
enhances your career prospects. There is a higher percentage that SNSs users
are more likely to find the workplace that fits them. That is why career-orientated
young entrepreneurs are advised to surf on social sites so that they would find
the workplace of their dreams. The usage of Facebook is also recommended for
pupils looking for student work in order to be given a high salary or wage from
their future employer. I would also highlight that SNSs enables students to
expand their knowledge and deepen their studies in a particular field of learning with their peers.
Unfavourable
aspects:
1st problem -
Compulsive Addiction:
One of the many problems of SNS sites is that they are
massively addictive. The vast majority of people tend to check their Instagram
account several times a day since they have the fear of missing out from
something. Everybody is posting things and share content all the time 24/7.
The problem arises when users ignore their family or their work obligations
because they have found the world of Instagram a more enjoyable place to spend
their time than the real world.
2nd problem -
Privacy:
An enormously big problem with social networking sites
is that they encourage you to be more public about your private life, including
status updates comments and pictures that can result in jealousy or even
identity theft. The solution for the latter problem is to use strong passwords
to protect the security of your data. Internet users are advised to use an
uppercase letter and numbers so as to make strong passwords. Another way how
hackers tend to spy for sensitive data, such as usernames, passwords, or credit
card details, is that they clone SNS sites and make an authentic replica of
them and urge you to enter your personal information. That is why we had better
be careful not to give such of data.
3rd problem -
Cyberbullying:
There is an estimated percentage that 50% of young children have already experienced online harassment in any form, including posting rumours or disclosing sensitive information about their peers. Cyberstalking is also on the rise among young teenagers because they are not aware of how deep mental scars it can leave in children. Cyber-bullying refers to the misusage of information technology with the internet to harass others. There have been numerous instances where the inexcusable consequences of online harassment were fatal / mortal on the individual. Unfortunately, it appears to me that vulnerable children are more likely to become a target of their peers who makes fun of them.
4th problem - The
self-esteem of the girls:
I have heard that many adolescent girls compare
themselves to those perfect females that appear on SNS sites or on television.
The self-esteem of these girls is likely to go down due to their extreme body
dissatisfaction. I firmly believe that comparing yourself to other women is
utterly useless because all women are beautiful in their own way. There is no
point in saying that eating disorders are the only solution for such problems like this.
