Law - Death Penalty

Introduction:

Discussions about capital punishment have always provoked heated debates. There has been an argument going on between the supporters and the opposition whether the death penalty ought to be legalised or not. It appears to me that both sides are passionately defending their own point of view about this controversial topic that has no grounds of agreement. There is no way of knowing what the correct answer is for this question. However, we are just about to find out what the most favourable solution would be for this recently discussed phenomenon.

Arguments for the death penalty:

One of the many counter-arguments that the supporters have when it comes to such punishments is that there has been an increasingly high unemployment rate among convicted inmates. Another reason why many people support the idea of executions is to lower / lessen the upkeep costs of these prosecuted perpetrators. What is more, numerous people tend to declare that these inmates will be likely to re-offend after they will have been released from prison that possesses a potential threat in terms of the safety of the generation of the 21st century.

Views against capital punishment:

A tremendous number of people oppose the "eye for an eye" principle and argue that no one ought to be allowed to take his / her citizens life seeing that it would be inhumane. The vast majority of the people claim that lots of prosecuted people were sentenced to death for crimes they had not committed. It is undeniably true that many defendants were falsely accused of such dreadful crimes. For those people who were confessed to a crime under duress, the verdict is final and there is no hope of a fair trial where they would be able to prove their innocence.

A survey indicated:

Researchers carried out a survey that illustrated that the death penalty is not an effective deterrent. According to this survey, people are not discouraged from committing homicide / manslaughter in the United States of America, where such verdicts still exist, owing to the fact that it doesn't reduce the currently published crime rate. I strongly reckon that this has been one of the most convincing / persuasive arguments why the death penalty has been outlawed in the European Union.

Conclusion:

What is common in these ideas is that something has to be done in order to tackle this problem so as to prevent people from being on death row.
